Elegy by the Aeon Trio on TRPTK offers a fascinating album of Jazz sounds at the intersection with Classical music. The trio features cellist Maya Fridman, pianist Atzko Kohashi and standing acoustic bassist Frans van der Hoeven with Kohashi playing a Fazioli Modello F228 Grand Piano.
The album’s tracks include music composed by Carla Bley (Útviklingssang), Ornette Coleman (Lonely Woman), Antonio Carlos Jobim (Zingaro, Luíza), Denny Zeitlin (Quiet Now), Gary McFarland (Gary’s Waltz) and John Williams (Elegy). It also features a classical piece by Gabriel Fauré (Lamento) and some numbers by members of the Aeon Trio.
William Shakespeare said “Music can minister to minds diseased, pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow, raze out the written troubles of the brain, and with its sweet oblivious antidote, cleanse the full bosom of all perilous stuff that weighs upon the heart.”
Maya Fridman says “It is how everything came together. We had so many ideas for the album that it could barely fit. So, we had to choose the best tunes and improvisations. In the end, I just want to say that this entire process from the first meeting till now was deeply enriching and I’m really grateful to Atzko, TRPTK, and Frans, for making it all happen.”
Elegy is a DXD recording that is available in Stereo and 5 Channel DSD 256, DSD 128, DSD 64 and DXD plus a new Stereo DSD 512 edition that is only available from NativeDSD. It is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release.
